about

In Dylan Grimm's sonically-charged debut LP "Pop Music Is Not A Crime," he touches on topics including heartbreak, fear and rejection, the attack on pop music, the love of his home town, and what it's like to be a young, emerging, and innovative musician. Although he usually works alone, for his first album he's teamed up with local and international talent to breathe new life into his work.

"To everyone who’s supported, encouraged, educated, and inspired me over the years. This album is for you. This album has been a long time coming, and has helped me grow in so many ways. Hopefully it will do the same for you. From my family to my friends, classmates, teachers, ex lovers, and anybody else who’s helped me through this album’s creation process, thank you from the bottom of my heart." - Dylan Grimm

Track Name: Stroma
These mountains look like cutouts
Silhouettes on sunset skies
I turn to see the reflection of the dashboard
Flicker in your eyes

Where we’re headed we don’t care
But this road might take us there
Another getaway to clear my mind
Another lover to waste my time

In our lives
We want to run the show
But when it’s our time
We can’t seem to let go

Pushing 80 on the highway
Past the Vegas strip
The bright lights and LED screens
They flash sex and broken dreams

Where we’re headed we don’t care
But this road might take us there
Another getaway to clear my mind
Another fantasy to waste my time

In our lives
We want to run the show
But when it’s our time
We can’t seem to let go

So in the mean time
Pack your bags
And jump in the car
Hit the gas
And don’t look back
Lets head for the stars

In our lives
We want to run the show
But when it’s our time
We can’t seem to let go
Where we’re headed we don’t care
But this road might take us there
Another getaway to clear my mind
Another lover to waste my time
Track Name: Pop Music Is Not A Crime
Four on the floor, and we’re looking for release
We came to dance off the stress of the week
Saw you walking in and I got thirsty
That’s when I thought to grab myself a drink

But there you were at the bar, going on about
How Kesha sucks and music’s fucked
Bringing the vibe down

We just wanna let loose and have fun
So let us dance until we see the sun
From party animals on the prowl
To the kid on the street who wants get down
If the Top 40 is a crime
Lock us up, we’ll serve our time
Until that day, keep the music loud
Coz pop music is not a crime

On our way to the after party
And we’ve got that killer
Bellrave track repeating
You tagged along, I can’t complain
It all seems good
Judging by your lips against my neck

But then you stop, to remark
Why you gotta say
How Britney’s shit, she buys her hits
Bringing the vibe down

We just wanna let loose and have fun
So let us dance until we see the sun
From party animals on the prowl
To the kid on the street who wants get down
If the Top 40 is a crime
Lock us up, we’ll serve our time
Until that day, keep the music loud
Coz pop music is not a crime
Track Name: Dreaming
One step forward, eight feet back
The trains all move, but there’s no track The sun is out, but there’s no light Something about this world
Just doesn’t feel right

You say “Three steps wrong, make my left”
And I reply with just as much sense
Thunder whispers, and the rain rises
In blue pixels on the horizon

But then it’s clear to me
Everything I see came from my mind
I’m dreaming in borrowed time

Then it hits me, a memory
Of you and I
Free falling through the sky
I’m sorry, forgive me
But it could only hold one
So I gave you wings to fly

Now it’s clear to me
Everything I see came from my mind
I’m dreaming on borrowed time
Track Name: Ink
It’s time I made my peace
A solemn walk through broken dreams
Lost in memories of what I thought was true
This wonderland of ice and snow
Tainted black by the words you throw
Has become my new canvas
And I’m letting go

Since I’ve got a heartbreak destiny
I’ll fall in love with the sounds that guide me
And let the ink numb this once beautiful soul
‘Til it can’t feel anymore

A storyteller once told me a tale of grief
So intense I could barely bring myself to speak
But once those words had finally clicked
They broke the wall and I fell for it
And while I believe the tale is true
How can I be sure when it came from you?

I’ll black out my heart shaped sleeve
And cover up what’s left of me
Inscribe designs of solid gold
To be reborn with terms of my own

Since I’ve got a heartbreak destiny
I’ll fall in love with the sounds that guide me
And let the ink numb this once beautiful soul
‘Til it can’t feel anymore

‘Til it can’t feel anymore
Don’t wanna feel anymore
Track Name: Generation Y (feat. Grim & Reaper)
My generation has been described as lazy, narcissistic, and delusional
Yes, some of us have a hard time holding down a job
And most of us crave “me” time, both on and off the clock
So, It shouldn’t come as a surprise that some of us,
Like myself, are highly materialistic
I mean, I think Madison Montgomery said it best
It’s because we’re the first generation where every kid gets a trophy
Just for showing up

There is another trait unique to The Millennials, or Generation Y
We are the first generation to grow up with an ever evolving landscape
Of interconnected technology at our fingertips
Now, my generation didn’t create the Internet,
But we are the first look at how it changed a species
It goes everywhere with us
And we are connected to each other 24/7
We are truly the global generation
Track Name: Vanity (feat. Grim & Reaper)
A living shadow, standing five foot seven
I’ll drag you to down to aesthetic heaven
So bring your MacBook and an iPhone 6
And I’ll bring some blk water just for kicks

Vanity thy name is Grimm
Buy me all the latest sins
Black Scale and Nu Goth
Who cares about the cost?
ZERO Collection tops the charts
But Saberi still owns this heart
Haute couture, this bear j’adore
Like a drug, I’m craving more

Who needs the catwalk
When you’ve got city streets?
Just watch me walk coz my fashion is on fleek
Asymmetric, monochrome sophistication
With silver tongued savoir-faire
I’m fucking perfection

Vanity thy name is Grimm
And these clothes replaced my skin Insecurities melt away
Coz In these rags I’m on display
A little Mugler will get you face
But it takes more to get a taste
So buy me Owens to get me off
Coz everybody know that fashion talks
Track Name: City Lights (feat. Tim Hilberts)
Put a spark to the night
Open up, turning on the light
Steer away from the lonely day
Through the corridor to life

One by one we come undone
And now we run
To the city lights
And move into the night time

There’s something comforting
About that bright orange glow
The salt laced streets
Lined from the daily ebb and flow

One by one we come undone
And now we run
To the city lights
And move into the night time
Track Name: DNA (feat. kCopes)
Well, well, well ain’t it ‘bout that time?
Copes been mute, but he still got the rhymes
I been riding the pine, surveying sounds
But I flip on the switch and I’m back on the ground

Coz it’s love for the game that I play
This was never Plan A, this was never for the pay
Man, I sat back in basements and rapped
Ended on blogs and made me some fans

Do It lIke us, you don’t do it for the math
Do it for the track, man, do it for the path
Do it for the fun, and the friends
Ended with both, just how I planned

So why talk scores?
What board?
Writer by day, airman by night
Salt Lake forever, kCopes for life
King of the Heights, go believe in the hype

We don’t need your injection to feel high
Just give us space, a beat, and we can fly
We’re not members of the designer drug nation
Just designers of new world innovation

It’s in our DNA
We blur the lines between work and play
The self-sustained, hi-tech, art creatures
That taught ourselves to be future leaders

Conduits made of silver and gold
Replace the veins that we all hold
Who needs blood when you’ve got data?
Just hope you’re ready for what we’ll make ya

My mind moves at a thousand miles an hour
A tuned machine of massive power
Part of a new breed thats stuck in dreams of
Freedom, beauty, truth, and love

It’s in our DNA
It’s in our DNA
It’s in our DNA
It’s in our DNA

We don’t need your injection to feel high
Just give us space, a beat, and we can fly
We’re not members of the designer drug nation
Just designers of new world innovation

It’s in our DNA
Track Name: Highlands
Condensation on a window pane
Looking out to see all these concrete veins
This is all we want, this is all we need
Muted morning tones and a pastel dream

Over seeing our town
We made it clear we’re never climbing down

On our city’s rooftops we are kings and queens
[One nation high above the ground]
These are our highlands, where we are free
[And we’re never giving up our crown]

In these our cities
We have our tales
The ones where we succeed
And the ones where we fail

Over seeing our town
We made it clear we’re never climbing down

On our city’s rooftops we are kings and queens
[One nation high above the ground]
These are our highlands, where we are free
[And we’re never giving up our crown]

On our city’s rooftops we are kings and queens
And together we are one
These are our highlands, where we are free
Yeah, we are free

On our city’s rooftops we are kings and queens
These are our highlands, where we are free
Track Name: Back Again (feat. S.F. Shields)
These days have become so stale
I wonder what it’s like to really feel
[Unlike the ghosts we always see]
Don’t want this I.V.
Pull it out of me
Please let us think on our own
[We want to know what it’s like to be free]

Breathe it out, breathe it out, breathe it out now
Clear the toxins and let your colors show
Let ‘em glow

What are you waiting for let’s go
Your spirits restless, don’t you know?
Fight like you’ve got something to prove
Stand up, it’s time you made your move
It’s still there, you’ve just been mislead
So spread the word, art ain’t really dead
We’ve lost the love that we once had
It’s time we brought it back again

I want the cure to the drug
That numbed our minds
[And tried to leave art behind]

Breathe it in, breathe it in, breathe it in and
Spread your wings to up the sky
It’s time to fly

What are you waiting for let’s go
Your spirits restless, don’t you know?
Fight like you’ve got something to prove
Stand up, it’s time you made your move
It’s still there, you’ve just been mislead
So spread the word, art ain’t really dead
We’ve lost the love that we once had
It’s time we brought it back again

Art is not dead
Pop music is not a crime
And pop music will never be low brow
